Craigie Paint Company: The Story
Craigie Paint has provided premium coatings and exceptional service for over 80 years. It all began in 1919 on 3rd and Grand River, in Detroit, when Robert E. Craigie, the son of a Scottish immigrant opened a modest painter's supply company. A few years later, Craigie Paint moved to their current location on Buena Vista Ave. (Jefferies Service Dr.) at Schaefer and Grand River.
In 1949, Robert Senior's son Robert E. Craigie Jr.(fondly referred to as Bobby) proudly joined his father in the family business. Bob's extensive chemical engineering background would be invaluable to the company. Under Bob's careful care Craigie Paint began to develop quite an extensive product line for a company of its size. Quality of course, always at the forefront; as The Craigie Family has always taken great pride in formulating ultra high quality coatings.
In 1969, Robert Senior stepped down leaving a most knowledgeable Bob at the helm. In 1985, Craigie Paint proudly welcomed its third generation into the coatings industry. When Bob's daughter, Leslie joined the company.
Now in the 21st Century, Leslie is leading the way as president of the 80-year-old company. Craigie Paint Company is pleased to announce their path into the millennium with the creation of "Paint Smart Studio," in Walled Lake. Craigie's first real off-site retail store.
Craigie refers to "Paint Smart," as a new concept for a traditional product. Paint Smart has a studio atmosphere.It's primary focus is as a paint and home idea store. They have combined home and garden accessories, antiques, and architectural artifacts with paint, supplies and exceptional service all in a comfortable setting. Craigie has also created their own custom color line called, "Smart Tints," featuring such local names as Woodward, River Town Brick, Boston Boulevard Blue, and Cork Town Tan. Paint is such an important element when decorating your home and yet it is often showcased in such an uninspiring way. Paint Smart Studio believes purchasing paint for your home should be fun, creative and hassle free.
Today, 80 years of experience and knowledge has taken Craigie Paint beyond the basic painter oriented industry into: Premium quality Industrial, Architectural, Commercial and Specialty coatings.
